Old Kingdom Trilogy - Bk. 1
Sabriel
by Garth Nix
Sabriel has never been over the world to the Old Kingdom. Kept away from the world where magic runs free.
When her father goes missing, she must go across the wall and re-discover a world long left behind her. A world where ghosts and elementals are real... and dangerous. Following the trail of her Abhorsen (think of as a good necromancer) father, she must unravel the truth and step into danger to rescue him and fix the mistakes they have made.
A cross over between young adult and adult fantasy, this is a series that is by an Australian author and was nominated for an Aurealis Award for Excellence in Science Fiction.
Well recommended by most people I know who have read it.
